Biography

Birthdate: Monday 25th of May 1953
Age: 58 years young

(&27744;玲&23376;, Ike Reiko?, born May 25, 1953 in Tokyo, Japan), is a Japanese actress, singer, and entertainer. She is best known for her roles in the genre of action/erotic movies known as pink films. Ike also released an album of songs in 1971, Kôkotsu No Sekai. After a drug-related arrest, and another arrest for illegal gambling in the 1970s, Ike dropped out of the entertainment business.

Sex And Fury star, Reiko Ike (born: 1953), although at the time looking grown-up and worldly for her age, hadn’t even hit 21 when she became one of Toei’s most provocative cinematic bad girls. Still in her late teens when she first materialized on the big screen in 1971, the stories of how she was discovered are inconsistent, one rumor asserting she was scouted at a nightclub, another that she was spotted as a model. Whatever the case, she didn’t seem to have been enamored of the idea of appearing naked in compromising, sometimes humiliating situations on film. Apparently, her family was also less than happy about the antics Toei proposed she get up to for the sake of box office success in the Girl Boss series. Yet, after all was said and done, there she ultimately was, in all her courageously defiant, nubile glory projected many times bigger than life in a multitude of Japanese cinemas. One can occasionally see Ike’s conflicted feelings shine through in her ‘pinky violence’ movies, and it’s her transcendental performances that remain the most memorable – simultaneously beautiful, fearless and heartwrenching. Ike, though beset by real-life problems with the law in the late seventies (once for drugs, once for illegal gambling), continued to act until the end of the decade, including appearances in at least two of Kinji Fukasaku’s Battles Without Honor & Humanity (Jinginaki Tatakai, 1973 – 1979) series, as well as the films, The Streetfighter’s Last Revenge (Gyakushu! Satsujin-ken, 1974) and Graveyard Of Honor (Jingi No Hakaba, 1975).

Reiko Ike was still in her late teens when she was "discovered" by Japan's Toei Studios (stories of her "discovery" are inconsistent, ranging from being scouted in a nightclub to being spotted as a model). Along with Miki Sugimoto she was Toei's top sex star throughout the 1970s, and the focus of the "sukeban" or female girl boss phenomenon of '70s Japanese cinema. Beginning with Girl Boss Guerilla (Sukeban gerira (1972)), Ike made 12 films, almost all in the Pinky Violence/Yakuza Girl genre. Despite real-life trouble with the law, being arrested once for drugs and once for illegal gambling, she worked throughout the decade appearing in at least two of Kinji Fukasaku's "Battles Without Honor & Humanity" (Battles Without Honour and Humanity (1973) series 1973-1979) series. Her last film before disappearing from the public eye was The Golden Dog (Ôgon no inu (1979)). The bulk of her work was for Toei in 1973, when she appeared in the films Sex & Fury (Sex and Fury (1973)), Girl Boss (Girl Boss Revenge: Sukeban (1973)), Terrifying Girls' High School: Lynch Law Classroom Kyôfu joshikôkô: bôkô rinchi kyôshitsu (1973)), Criminal Woman: Killing Melody (Zenka onna: koroshi-bushi (1973)) and Sex & Fury's sequel Female Yakuza Tale: Inquisition and Torture (Story of a Wild Elder Sister: Widespread Lynch Law (1973)). This rush of films established her as a major sex icon in Japan and created a tabloid rivalry with follow Toei contact player Miki Sugimoto, who was her co-star in several films.

The recent reissues of Sex & Fury and Female Yakuza Tale, along with the release of a Pinky Violence box set, collecting her films Terrifying Girls School, Criminal Woman, and Girl Boss Guerilla, has rekindled her cult following.
